These records are a collection of information on Dr. Robert B.
Ingram, the first African-American police officer to be assigned to
the white section of Downtown Miami. He is also the former and
only Mayor of Opa Locka to serve for three consecutive terms. Dr.
Ingram is currently the District 1 Representative for the MiamiDade School Board. The collection consists of profiles, news
articles, posters, publications and correspondences. Ingram’s
collection is a collection of articles dating from 1981 to 2004. In
these articles researchers may find information pertaining his life
and career in Miami.
Ingram, the first African-American police officer to be assigned to

Brief description of processing procedure
The records in this collection were located in the Black Archives
ready reference room under Personalities H. After a preliminary
survey was conducted, it was discovered that the records were in
categorical order however, they were kept in two large binder
folders. To process the collection the information was placed into
categories, and then transferred into acid-free file folders. After
being appropriately labeled, the folders were organized in
alphabetical order and placed in an acid-free Hollinger box. A
content listing was made, and the appropriate labels were attached,
and the boxes were stored in the collection room. This collection
was processed at the file folder level and is now categorized
multiple series.

These records were stored along with the Personalities H
Collection, and since this is a community archives, it will be an
ongoing collection. The collection includes, profiles,
correspondences, and news articles of Ingram, and will continue to
grow as more information is made available to the archives. Upon
reviewing the collection, I made the decision to separate it from the
personalities H due to its’ high volume of information and
newspaper clippings.
