Description
Mayme E. Williams was a teacher, counselor, administrator, consultant in High School and College, and a humanitarian. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a single child of Albert and Mayme Smith. She was married to Charles L. Williams.She graduated from Wilberforce and Arkansas Universities and recieved her Masters Degree from New York University. She is a member of the Roman Catholic Church and has many offices. Formally taught Social Studies at Winston Salem, North Carolina and Ft, Smith, Arkansas and Booker T. Washington High School. She was an Assistant Pricipal at Booker T. Washington. Mayme's first year in Miami she served as a first grade teacher in Douglas Elementary. Maybe had a strong hand in helping Douglas Elementary be rated as the best Negro school in the County. She served on the Board of Directors for Urban League, Y.W.C.A., Girl Scouts, Welfare Planning Council, one of the founding group of women in Community Service, National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the International League for Peace and Freedom. Appointed by President Eisenhower to serve on the First House Conference on Education(only negro of 35 membership Committee).
