The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Collection at The Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida documents the civic leadership, youth development, and community engagement efforts of the Greater Miami Section of the organization. Reflecting NCNW’s longstanding mission of empowering African American women, families, and communities, the collection includes organizational records, photographs, ephemera, and program materials that highlight local initiatives and social impact. A significant feature of the collection is a series of program books from the annual “Girls of the Year” recognition program, established to celebrate young women for their academic achievement, leadership, community service, and personal excellence. The program later expanded to include male honorees, introducing the “Men of the Year” program beginning in 1976 and continuing in subsequent years. Together, these materials provide valuable insight into youth mentorship, Black civic life, leadership cultivation, and community recognition in Miami-Dade County, while preserving the legacy of NCNW’s contributions to social progress and cultural history.
